Are You Experiencing A Spiritual Awakening?

Are You Experiencing A Spiritual Awakening?

“We are all equally capable of spiritual awakening. It may not seem that way, at times. Some of us are so caught up in the drama of our day-to-day existence that we have lost track of who we really are. But eventually, all of us will make the discovery of our true nature.” - Victor Shamas.

In the same way as humans, we go through stages of growth, becoming more aware of our bodies and the physical world around us from infancy to adulthood, we also go through stages of spiritual growth as we start to look at life with new meaning.

A spiritual awakening is an opportunity for us to take a step back and reflect on how our own self-limiting beliefs and behaviours may be preventing us from connecting with our inner and outer world, on our journey of self-discovery.

What is a Spiritual Awakening?

“It is through gratitude for the present moment that the spiritual dimension of life opens up” - Eckart Tolle

Essentially, we all wish to live a blissful and content life. At one point or another we’ve all felt as though we are running on autopilot, losing awareness of our connection between our true selves and the natural bond we have with our spiritual self and the world in which we live.

There may be a time or several times when we experience an ‘awakening’ from this state of living life on autopilot. It may be a life changing event such as a loss of a loved one or a near death experience that causes us to come back to our original selves and take a step back to see the world as it really is, moving beyond our limited reality. For others it could be as simple as coming across a piece of information that totally changes your mindset and how you think about life.

Whatever the catalyst, a spiritual awakening is a time of transformation and spiritual evolution. It is a time of spiritual growth through which we have the opportunity to gain a broader and clearer perspective of life, the people and world around us. It’s a time for growth, development and self-realisation in which we shift towards a higher level of consciousness, where we can learn to release our fears and accept love.

Opening Your Mind, Body Spirit & Soul

By opening yourself up to a spiritual awakening, you can set into motion the steps needed to bring your mind, body, spirit and soul into a space of balance.

“You can have a spiritual awakening and discover a new side of you at any age. And best of all, love can happen at any age. Life can just start to get exciting when you’re in your 40s and 50s. You have to believe that.” - Salma Hayek

If you are ready to welcome spiritual empowerment and enlightenment into your life, there are a few things you can integrate into your daily life to help open your mind, body, spirit and soul to a spiritual awakening:

  • Cleanse Your Environment - Decluttering your physical space can not only make you feel more organised but it can help relieve stress, create a feeling a balance and as a result clear your mind, removing anything distracting you from connecting with what is truly important in your life.

  • Practice Self-Love & Self-Care - Learn to be kind to yourself and work through reframing any self-limiting beliefs. You’ll start to feel lighter, more positive and you’ll begin to move towards a feeling of peace and spiritual awareness as you feel your worries float away.

  • Let Go - Release your fears and anything which does not contribute towards your goal of living a more blissful and harmonious life. Learn to forgive and embrace your hopes and dreams. Why not start a journal to help you work through the negative energies you need to let go of.

  • Be Kind to Others - Show others the same kindness you wish others to show to you. Don’t forget to consider your motives and make sure your actions of kindness and gratitude come from a place of honesty and love. The universe will match your energy with the people you interact with and positive experiences.

  • Meditate - Clear your mind and set time aside to consider your actions, how they affect you and the people around you. Visualise good in the world, expanding your positive energy flow and creating a greater level of self-awareness.

  • Practice Mindfulness - Take a moment to reconnect with nature. Go for a walk in the park, gaze at the moon and stars or even light a candle and listen to your favourite song and just focus on that present moment.

  • Question & Learn - Examine your beliefs and ask why. Research and discover more about yourself and the world around you. Question the things you automatically and routinely do every day as you move towards a greater sense of spiritual awareness.

The experience of a spiritual awakening and the journey which accompanies it can be one of a multitude of emotions from uncertainty to bliss. At times it can be an unsettling time in which we learn to let go of the things, emotions and beliefs which no longer serve our higher purpose. It’s a period in which many of us come to the realisation that everyone has their own path in life if they wish to choose to embrace and shape it.

Embracing Your Spiritual Awakening

The path to spiritual growth is one of life-long learning and a spiritual awakening is only one piece of the puzzle! The path to spiritual awakening is an individual one, however there are some stages we may all go through:

  • Enlightenment - Many of us will experience a moment in life where our minds experience a reset, and we realise a change needs to happen to help us reconnect with what is truly important in life and the understanding that there is something much higher than ourselves in the universe.

  • Discovery & Learning - That lightbulb moment where we discover new information which makes us question our perspective on life and start to re-evaluate our existing belief systems.

  • Conflict - This can be an unnerving time as we start to question the new things we are learning and comparing this with what we have always known or believed to be right.

  • Understanding - At this point, we start to get a deeper understanding of our inner and outer world. This may be a long journey as we get to grips with the idea of trying not to control everything.

  • Acceptance & Harmony – We begin a journey of acceptance of both our inner and outer world. Eventually we being to feel a sense of oneness with the universe and spiritual realm.

We have the choice to be consumed by our self-sabotaging thoughts and material things or take the leap, let go and choose a more fulfilled and rewarding existence. Eventually we can move towards a path of harmony with our inner and outer spiritual world.
